Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman on December 22, 1922 - September 9th, 1999 was an American actress. She began her career in the east coast of America as a stage actress and then moved to Hollywood to explore a film career. She appeared in several part parts that were not acknowledged until she was cast as the leading lady in the western Harmony Trail (1944) and as the title character in the film serial Jungle Queen (1945), her first credit-worthy film performances.Roman first starred in the role of Belle Starr's Daughter as the title character in Belle Starr's Daughter (1948).She made her debut success in the role of The Window (1949) and the following year was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year as an actress for her role in Champion (1949). In the 1950s, she was under contract to Warner Bros., where she starred in a variety of films that included the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951).In the mid-1950s, following her departure from Warner Bros., Roman continued to be a film star and began appearing in the roles of guest stars in TV series. Roman also produced films in Spain, Italy, and England. Also, she was a guest on the SS Andrea Doria when it struck another vessel and then sank in the year 1956. In 1959, she won the Sarah Siddons Award for her work in the play Two for the Seesaw. She was a TV celebrity who was honored with an award on Hollywood's Walk of Fame for her numerous television appearances.Norma Roman was born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (nee Gold), and Abraham "Anthony” Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her name was changed to "Ruth" when the fortune-teller advised her mother that "Norma" was a bad name. Her mother was a dancer and her father was a barker for the carnival sideshow they ran in Revere Beach. She had two older sisters, Ann and Eve.
