Ruth Roman (born Norma Roman; December 22nd, 1922-September 9, 1999)was an American actress of film, stage, and television.After acting in stage and screen roles in the east coast, Roman relocated to Hollywood to make a name for herself in film. Prior to her appearance in western Harmony Trail (1944), Roman was also featured in the title role in Jungle Queen (1945). It was her first credit role. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the Year as an Actress for her performance, Champion (1949). She was under contract to Warner Bros. in the 1950s. There she starred in a number of films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951). Roman began appearing as a guest on TV series around the middle of the 1950s. Roman also produced films in Spain, Italy, and England. In 1956, she was an onboard passenger of the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel, sinking. She was given the Sarah Siddons Award in 1959 for her part in the play Two for the Seesaw. Her numerous television appearances earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of FameNorma Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Mary Pauline (nee Gold) and Abraham "Anthony" Roman. When a fortune teller advised her mother that "Norma was not lucky," she was given the name Ruth. Her mother was a dancer , and her father was a barker at the sideshow at the carnival they owned in Revere Beach. Ann and Eve were her two older sisters.
